About us

How we work

Learning through Landscapes Cymru is the natural place to turn for support on any school grounds or early years outdoor related enquiry.

We exist to help you develop outdoor spaces that are well-used, enjoyed and valued by the whole school and wider community.

Learning through Landscapes focuses on giving children and young people a say in the way these spaces are used and improved. Our work allows children to create and nurture their own environment, helping their self-esteem to grow, along with their potential to learn and achieve.

Championing, advocacy and research on behalf of children and young people

  • Working with government and other public sector agencies at a national and regional level to raise the profile of school grounds.

  • Investigating the role school grounds play in child development.

Direct intervention

  • Working directly with children and young people to bring about tangible improvement to the use, design and management of their school grounds through focused programmes of activity.

  • Empowering children and young people to become agents of positive change.

Indirect intervention

  • Delivering professional development for teachers, early years practitioners and school grounds professionals.
  • Producing resources and publications on all aspects of using and improving outdoor educational spaces.
