Education Minister recognises the positive changes in outdoor environments

14/9/2009

LTL Cymru was delighted to hear Jane Hutt’s recent comments on the ways in which schools have embraced the new early years curriculum. Following her visit to St James’s primary school in Caerphilly, The Education Minister paid particular attention to the transformation of Welsh school’s outdoor environments. She commented, “Feedback from schools and parents about the Foundation Phase over the last year has been really positive. On my visits to schools the length and breadth of Wales I have seen the way in which schools have embraced our new early years curriculum. I am particularly impressed by the way in which many schools have transformed their outdoor spaces to create exciting environments where children can learn.”The Education Minister was visiting St James’s to mark the second year roll-out of the Foundation Phase. From the start of this autumn term the Assembly Government’s revolutionary play-based curriculum rolls out to include 4 to 5-year olds. By the 2011/2012 school year all children aged 3 to 7 will benefit from this new approach to learning. If you are an early years setting and have an outdoor space you are proud of, or you have inspiring ways of taking learning through play outdoors, why not share them with us? LTL Cymru are always looking for case studies to inspire others and demonstrate the great outdoor practice and provision here in Wales. If you are interested in sharing your story please get in touch either by ringing the office on 02920 227929 or emailing our development officer at sghahremani@ltl.org.uk.
